Apple ID tied to Minot email

Do you have an Apple ID using your @minot.k12.nd.us email address?

We are updating our Apple Device management system to provide better support and service as well as Single Sign On capabilities. Apple requires that we start from a “clean slate”, which means that anyone who has previously tied their @minot.k12.nd.us email address to an Apple ID must change to a personal email instead. Once the update is completed, we’ll provide more information on how to take advantage of the new features enabled by this transition at the start of the upcoming school year.

Why do we want to Manage Apple IDs?

MPS can use Managed Apple IDs to sign in to Macs, or to access Apple services on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. These services include sharing MPS approved apps and the ability to disable non-educational services. Managed Apple IDs also include 200GB of iCloud storage.

You will need to change the @minot.k12.nd.us email address associated with your Apple ID to a personal email address. The only change will be the email address tied to your Apple ID account. This will not affect any other setting, file or password associated with your Apple device, Apple ID account, email accounts or computer. Learn more from Apple.

Please note that when you sign into iCloud.com, you are using your Apple ID. You are unable to change the Apple ID from iCloud.com, go to https://appleid.apple.com/ to change your Apple ID.

Changing your Apple ID

What happens if I don’t update my Apple ID?

If the Apple ID is not updated before federating is complete Apple creates a temporary Apple ID and you still need to change it. It will be something like firstname.lastname-minot.k12.nd.us@temporary.appleid.com. You can still change it and the data associated with it will not be lost. Services attached will be deactivated such as  iMessage, Facetime, App Store, and the ability to change the Apple ID on the mobile device.
