PROCEDURE FOR PUBLIC INPUT AT A SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

The Board of Education welcomes public input and encourages community engagement in the work of the District. Time is set aside at regular Board meetings for public comments, providing an opportunity for individuals to share their views on agenda items. This section is governed under MPS Policies BCBA and BCBA-BR. Individuals wishing to speak must complete a Public Comment Card and submit it to the Business Manager before the meeting begins.

Speakers will be invited to address the Board and are limited to three (3) minutes each. No speaker can proxy their time to another individual.

Public comment is limited by agenda topic, to the agendas of the current and one preceding Regular Board meeting.  Notwithstanding the rules and limitations per Policy BCBA, when there is a large number of public speakers to be heard, or if pressure of business or other circumstances dictate, the presiding officer may shorten the length of time allowed for each speaker and/or limit the total time to be devoted to public comment. Groups sharing a common concern are encouraged to designate a spokesperson.

The Board will not hear personal complaints against students, staff, or other individuals during public comment. Such matters should be addressed through appropriate channels. Board members and the district administrator may question a speaker or make comments in response to the speaker's remarks.
