What is Healthy Living?

The Healthy Living program is part of the employee wellness program offered by Minot Public Schools to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to engage in a regular exercise program. Research has proven that employees who exercise regularly are happier, more productive, and sick less often.

This is beneficial to everyone involved. Basically, a financial reward is given to employees for maintaining a certain level of fitness and health. Standards are based on the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines, and as long as you are maintaining good health or improving less than optimal health, you will be rewarded!

How does it work?

Two times per year, you are given the opportunity to have a free fitness evaluation done. After completing the evaluation, Trinity Health Exercise Physiology will compare your results to national standards. If your scores are average or better, you only have to maintain those scores. If your scores are below average, then 6 months later you must show improvement to be rewarded a financial incentive.

You also have the option to have your blood lipids tested to attain an additional goal. There is a small fee for that, but it gets reimbursed to you if you meet even just one goal! The 7th goal is obtained by recruiting another employee or spouse of an employee who has not been involved in the program and who subsequently meets at least one goal during the applicable period.

What's the catch?

The best thing about this program is that there is no “catch”. It is completely free to you, and the only thing you are required to do is to stay active and maintain certain standards of health. You are not required to have a gym membership, and there is no financial cost to you whatsoever. The fitness assessment involves 5 different tests. They include flexibility, upper body strength endurance, body fat composition, abdominal endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. Any inability to perform any of the assessments due to a chronic medical condition will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Test substitutions may be made as needed.

Goal Setting

Focus areas are flexibility, upper body endurance, body fat composition, abdominal endurance and cardiovascular fitness. Any inability to perform any of the assessments due to a chronic medical condition will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Test substitutions may be made as needed. Participants are re-tested every 6 months. Cash reward is based on goals achieved and seminar attendance (if seminar offered).

*Optional Blood Lipid Assessment: If employees choose to do the blood work, the $30 fee must be paid on day of assessment. Active participants reaching at least one goal at 6-month reassessment will be reimbursed.

How do I sign up?

Go to trinityhealth.motivation.cc and click on “create account”. On the next page, enter “Minot Public School District” as your “Unit”. Then follow the instructions closely, particularly the green sentences.

After that, you will be asked to fill out a Health Risk Appraisal questionnaire. After completing this questionnaire, you are enrolled!

The next thing to do is sign up for an assessment. Each Fall and Spring, a detailed instructional video is posted on First Class which will demonstrate how to sign up for a fitness assessment. Wellness seminar attendance is required (if session offered). Please be sure to check your First Class News for notifications.
