What is Healthy Living?

The Healthy Living program, an integral component of the wellness program provided by Minot Public Schools, aims to promote healthy lifestyles and regular exercise among employees. Studies have consistently shown that employees who engage in regular exercise tend to experience higher levels of happiness, increased productivity, and reduced instances of illness.

This arrangement is beneficial for everyone involved. Essentially, employees receive a financial incentive for meeting or improving upon a specific level of fitness and health. These standards are based on the guidelines established by the American College of Sports Medicine. As long as you maintain good health or make strides toward improving less than optimal health, you'll qualify for rewards!

How does it work?

Two times per year, you are given the opportunity to have a free fitness evaluation. You can start at either the fall or spring session. After completing the evaluation, Trinity Health Exercise Physiology will compare your results to national standards. If your scores are average or better, you only have to maintain those scores. If your scores are below average, then 6 months later you must show improvement to be rewarded a financial incentive.

You also have the option to have your blood lipids tested to attain an additional goal. There is a $30.00 fee for the blood lipid test, but it will be reimbursed to you at the next session if you meet even just one goal! The 7th goal is obtained by recruiting another employee or spouse of an employee who has not been involved in the program and who subsequently meets at least one goal during the applicable period.

What's the catch?

The program comes with no strings attached! It's entirely free for you to participate. The only thing we ask is that you maintain certain health standards and stay active. You don't need a gym membership to participate. Our fitness assessment covers five key areas: flexibility, upper body strength endurance, body fat composition, abdominal endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. If you're unable to complete any of the assessments due to a chronic medical condition, we'll evaluate your situation on a case-by-case basis and offer appropriate test substitutions as needed.

Goal Setting

Key areas of focus include flexibility, upper body endurance, body fat composition, abdominal endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. If a participant is unable to perform any assessments due to a chronic medical condition, their situation will be individually considered. Test substitutions may be accommodated as necessary. Participants will re-test every six months. Cash rewards will be determined based on achieved goals AND completion of an informational video along with an online form.

*Optional Blood Lipid Assessment: If employees choose to do the blood work, the $30 fee must be paid on day of assessment. Active participants reaching at least one goal at the six month reassessment will be reimbursed.
